This is the second tutorial on how to use the Pretty Link plugin for WordPress. In this one I go over the most customizable link option — the PrettyBar. Next week I’ll cover some more of the Link Options, what they are, how they work and how they can help you extend your online presence.

Great video! Really appreciate the tutorials… very helpful, Blair.

Here’s a quick question for you… is there a way to retrieve hit data for a specific pretty link? I’d like to show how many hits each pretty-link is getting on my blog. So visitors can basically see what links are the most popular.

    Is this possible to do?

    Thanks,
    - Michael

    P.S. Awesome plugin!

Well, currently there’s no way to make that data accessible outside of the admin … like for public users. If you click on hits within your pretty link admin you can see all kinds of data about your hits and even download a report of your hits in csv format. I have a pretty link sidebar widget planned — I’ll add this as an option on it … Great Idea!

      @Blair – awesome work and useful video…

Any news on the sidebar widget…? Can only say it would be a huge success and look forward to hearing about the update… Thanks again for the hard work! :-)

Glad to hear you are making Pretty Links even better!

Right now, I am just clicking sortby hits/uniques and putting those specific posts/links into a category for Popular. Seems to work ok until there is a built-in method of doing it.

The downloadable csv might be another way to do it, if I had a large number of links to sort, I suppose there would be a way to import the data into MySQL and really start messing with the output data. Too much for me to handle, though.

    Have a great weekend!

Hi Blair – this plugin is awesome – I can’t believe how well it works!. I’ve used it a few time for creating links which all work great however I’ve tried to set up a link with pretty bar enabled and the bar portion gives me a 404 of my site rather than the pretty bar – any ideas? I’ve checked the FAQs and can’t see anything related to this.

Thanks for your help and the great plugin – even without the bar the links are a stroke of genius!

Awesome plugin! But what about a written tutorial? Would be much more useful for me personally. Thx!

Just a small tip for PrettyBar users:
There is a free AIR-application called Icon Generator which can make a nice 48 pixel image perfect for the PrettyBar. There are two choices: a lookalike of the new Adobe-icons or a star-icon web 2.0 style.

    Download here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/marketplace/index.cfm?marketplaceid=1&count=1&paginate=next&categoryid=6&event=marketplace.offering&offeringid=10313
[Blair maybe you can make this a pretty link?]

    Good luck!

just select the ‘nofollow’ option — it will pass a ‘noindex’ in the header with it.

This is a great plugin but I don’t seemt to have the same functionality/options that are detailed in your video tutorials.

After I create the prettylink, the link options only show the choices in a drop down format so I can’t choose more than one.

Similarly, there are very limited choices in the options menu. Again, those too are in drop down format.

Does this mean the usability is limited unless I upgrade to Pro? I hope not as there was no mention of this in your tutorials.

    thanks

Those tutorials are out dated — I revised them and will be posting some new ones soon. There are just as many options available as before … the only difference is that the tracking pixel, cloaking and pretty bar have all been moved to the redirect type dropdown. Hope that helps.
