Pretty Link Bugs Squashed

by Blair Williams · Mar 22, 2011

Today we released Pretty Link version 1.4.56. It fixes numerous bugs including:

  1. Pretty Link (Lite and Pro) is now 100% compatible with WordPress 3.1 and Multi-Site. Pretty Link has been running well with WordPress 3.1 but these Pretty Link fixes have been put in place so that future updates will work properly (especially when a Pretty Link release updates the database).
  2. Link slug availability routines have been shored up to allow pretty links from being able to utilize all slugs that truly don't conflict with page, post, category and tag slugs.
  3. Fixed link rotation form in Pretty Link Pro so that the link weights won't reset when the page is reloaded.
  4. Fixed a minor auto link creation issue that affected posts when the Default Group was set to “None” in Pretty Link Pro.
  5. Made several modifications to the hit resetting routines especially when Simple Click Tracking is enabled.
  6. Made several enhancements to the Keyword Replacement Routines in Pretty Link Pro.

We recommend that all Pretty Link Lite & Pro users upgrade to 1.4.56.

Reports about this release that have been coming in from users this morning have been very positive … so you have no excuse but to upgrade …

Where Did Pretty Link Cloaking and the Pretty Bar Go?

Where Did Pretty Link Cloaking and the Pretty Bar Go?

by Blair Williams · Sep 24, 2010

This morning Pretty Link disappeared from the WordPress.org plugin repository because it didn't comply with a new, apparently undocumented policy that doesn't allow plugins to cloak links. Pretty Link wasn't the only plugin affected by this policy change, wordpress.org removed all plugins from the repository that allowed users to cloak links.

I've been working with the guys at wordpress.org this morning to get Pretty Link back on the repository. The only way to do this was to remove link cloaking, pretty bar and pixel tracking from the Pretty Link Lite versions 1.4.51 and beyond.

How will this change affect me?

Here are the facts you need to know about this significant change: [Read more…] about Where Did Pretty Link Cloaking and the Pretty Bar Go?

Luckily, you can automate this process and auto tweet your blog posts right from your wordpress website using Pretty Link Pro. Hopefully this article will show you how this can save you time and the simple steps you'll need to go through to get this auto tweet feature working for you.

Successful Affiliate Link Campaigns: Replacing Keywords with Pretty Link Pro

by Blair Williams · Mar 18, 2010

Pretty Link Pro is a very powerful application for successful Affiliate Link campaigns — and one of it's most important features for Affiliate Link campaigns is Keyword Replacements. This feature allows you to attach keywords to your pretty links and have those keywords replaced throughout your blog with click-able links to that pretty link. This technique can help to meet link density recommendations for SEO and successful affiliate link campaigns on even very old blog posts (since PLP replaces these links through all your posts & pages). Use resources at White Label Reviews to your benefit.

Pretty Link Pro also provide ways to throttle the number of keywords replaced per post, number of replacements per keyword per post, and specify link attributes like styling and nofollows. These options will allow your posts to not get too “spammy” — which can be very bad for affiliate link campaigns in particular.

How To Create Even Shorter Pretty Links

How To Create Even Shorter Pretty Links

by Blair Williams · Mar 11, 2010

Do you wish you could use a shorter domain name with your Pretty Links? Take the www out of the beginning of your Pretty Links? Is the WordPress portion of your website in a sub-directory and would like your Pretty Links to come from the top level of your domain name? Well, Pretty Link Pro can help you solve any of these problems to make your Pretty Links as short as possible.

So, granted, there are some small hurdles to get through initially but you'll find that it's quite easy to put your short links on another domain name and continue to manage them from your wordpress admin — even if your wordpress blog is in a subdirectory of your website.

Here's what you'll need to do to get a custom short link working: [Read more…] about How To Create Even Shorter Pretty Links

More Twitter Automation Comes to Pretty Link Pro

More Twitter Automation Comes to Pretty Link Pro

by Blair Williams · Oct 14, 2009

multi_twitterIn the 1.4.27 release of Pretty Link Pro there are some major refinements. The first of these refinements is the ability to set up multiple twitter accounts that your blog can post to. You can now automatically post notifications of each of your blog posts to however many Twitter accounts you want to simultaneously. This feature arose from my need to tweet posts out to 3 twitter accounts that I own — before I was auto tweeting to my main account @supercleanse and then re-tweeting to my other two. This was time consuming and kind of defeated the purpose of auto tweeting altogether.

In addition to multiple twitter accounts, we've optimized the page load time for users of the social media button bar, re-tweet badge and of Pretty Link. Many of the SQL queries were slowing down some of the page load times.

Finally, we made many back end changes to the system so that it will be able to accommodate some of the awesome new features we have planned next (some of which were revealed in this month's survey). Enjoy!

UPDATE: Okay, so there was actually a significant bug that was released with version 1.4.27 — if you haven't done it already go out and upgrade to 1.4.28 where it has been fixed! Sorry for any issues.
